Honoured at the National TWIA Awards 2026

Milestone in my journey as a Cake Designer

I am honestly overwhelmed with gratitude as I share a recent milestone in my journey as a cake designer. Being highly commended at the national TWIA awards is not just a personal triumph; it's a significant moment for the Scottish cake community, marking the first time a Scottish designer has received such recognition in these prestigious awards.

When I first started my cake journey, I could never have imagined reaching such heights. Each cake I create tells a story, forged from passion, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to connection. From the very beginning, my aim has always been to create memorable experiences through my designs, focusing on my couple's wedding cakes that symbolise love and their own unique story. It really is something I am truly passionate about and feel very privileged to call this my job; creating special and unique cakes for the most beautiful souls.

"Laura is wonderful--a real joy to work with. How special she is comes through in both the design of her cakes and in the flavors of every bite. Laura easily (and effortlessly!) brought my wedding cake vision to life. And the cake was DELICIOUS. Our guests gobbled it up--and asked for more!. It was also incredibly special (and so thoughtful!) to see Laura on our wedding day, when she dropped off a framed sketch of our cake. Thank you for making our cake a truly memorable part of our big day!" ~ Nia and Tyler, Balnagowan Estates

The journey has not been without its challenges. There have been times where self-doubt crept in, moments when I questioned if I would ever be recognised in a field filled with so much talent. However, I persevered, fuelled by the support of my family, friends, and the wonderful couples who entrust me to create something truly beautiful for them.

I first learned about TWIA in 2021, and I knew I wanted to push myself forward for an award. It was really important to me to find a wedding award that was fairly judged, not based on public vote but genuinely assessed on the work that I was creating in such a significant time in a couple's life. When I first entered in 2022, I quickly felt very overwhelmed and withdrew my application, knowing that I had much work ahead before I felt confident to put myself out there and have my work judged. I used the following year to work on myself and my growth. In 2024, I returned with high hopes but didn’t achieve the recognition I desired, which was so disheartening. However, those moments taught me invaluable lessons about my own resilience, passion, and self-belief.

With the launch of the Scottish category in 2025, I embraced the opportunity to showcase my creativity and dedication, ultimately becoming the Scottish winner in both 2025 and 2026! This achievement is truly rewarding, and I am so proud of what I create for my beautiful couples.

Receiving this accolade at a national level is incredibly humbling. It reminds me that passion and hard work do pay off. This recognition is not just for me as an individual but serves as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring cake designers in Scotland. It shows that we can compete on a national stage and that Scottish talent is truly something to celebrate.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the TWIA judges for their acknowledgment of my work. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way – your encouragement means the world to me.

"As Italian I'm so used to good food and cakery, believe me when I say that Creatures of Habit Cakery is outstanding, Laura is the sweetest heart on planet earth and you can easily feel her passion through hers creations." ~ Noemi and Marco, Eilean Donan Castle

As I reflect on this honour, I'm excited for what is next and where my path is taking me. I am excited to continue pushing my creative boundaries and exploring new designs. I hope to inspire others to follow their dreams, knowing that with dedication and passion, literally anything is possible.

"Laura from Creatures of Habit Cakery designed an amazing cake for our elopement. We travel the world and her cake was not only beautiful, it was one of the best cakes we have ever had. The flavour was perfect and she incorporated everything that we asked for into our cake. She is an artist and exceeded our expectations." ~ Lucy and Tim, Cuillin Hills

Here’s to celebrating this achievement, to all the talented artists in Scotland, and to the wonderful creations yet to come!
